Boho Glam Tassel Necklace

This necklace is actually inspired by one of Payton's teachers. She had on a funky long big tassel necklace the other day and it really made me want to design something in that style using gemstones. The ball chain is a perfect addition because it mirrors the look of beads on a strand while adding the cool metal tones. With a big tassel like this, the necklace is best worn really long.

Supplies you’ll need:

3 strands of 3-4mm gemstone beads
6 24" lengths of C-Lon size D thread
1 collapsible eye needle
hypo cement
3 types of ball chain cut into 6" lengths
3 7" lengths of small cable chain with links large enough to fit a jump ring through the end of
6 8mm jump rings
60" Irish waxed linen 4-ply
3' of patterned roll or cable chain - nothing delicate

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1

Since this necklace is worn long, there is no need for a clasp. Simply open one of the links of chain and attach.

Step 2

Now it's time to string your beads. Cut your 3 16" strands in half. String each half onto a doubled over 24" length of C-Lon size D thread. Make sure to knot the ends together several times prior to stringing, dabbing with adhesive.
Repeat this step 5 more times.

Step 3

Using one of your 7" lengths of chain, attach an 8mm jump ring at the end stringing through the center of the pyrite button.
Repeat this step on each end of the 3 7" lengths of chain.

Step 4

Lay the strands of beads and chain over the necklace chain.

Step 5

Fold the strands over the necklace chain. Using your 60" length of Irish waxed linen cord, begin wrapping the end of the cord around the tassel to secure approximately 1/2" from the fold over. Gently knot leaving a 2" tail, pulling it to the top for later knotting. Taking the longer length of Irish waxed linen, begin wrapping around and around securely but not too tight. This wrapping should be about 1/2" wide in the end. Take the end of your cord and knot with the 2 " tail from earlier. Trim excess.
